Community Meeting

Thursday, August 19, 6:00 pm in the Sondreson Hall parking lot

By the end of this week, the command post near West Glacier will be shut down and Hay Creek Fire operations will be transferred to a local Type 4 team based out of the Hungry-Horse-Glacier View District. There will still be an Incident Commander and resources assigned to the Hay Creek Fire for the foreseeable future, but not at the levels we’ve seen recently. This is an opportunity to get information on what fire operations and information management will look like going forward.

Hay Creek Fire – Stolen pump and hose!

Hay Creek Fire Type 3 Team LogoA note from Sonja Hartmann, PIO for the Type 3 fire team, lightly edited…

… Andy [Huntsberger] wanted me to share with you that a pump and some hose was stolen off of the Hay Creek Road the night of August 14. It occurred at approximately [2300]. Resources assigned to the night shift passed a UTV with light bar on Hay Creek Road and could visibly see boxes and hose on board. We later confirmed the items were missing. Please pass along this information to the residents to please keep an eye out for us or to let Andy know [andrew.huntsberger@usda.gov] if they hear anything that might lead to the recovery of these items.

It would be really nice to catch those low-lives.

The county grader and 2 water tenders ordered by the fire worked on improving the Hay Creek Road yesterday. Fuel reduction off the Red Meadow Road is close to completion.

A recon flight with the incoming local Incident Commander took place yesterday, and two incident Black Hawk helicopters were loaned to the Haystack and South Yaak fires. Today, operations will take a flight to get eyes on the fire.
